John Halotek has spent more than three decades working on complex government identification systems at international scale. In those environments disciplined thinking around threat vectors, exposure, and system vulnerability is the baseline. That standard shapes every decision at Squares 9 Corporation.
As Founder and Chief Executive Officer Halotek approaches social media through the same lens that defined his career. Protect people first then build the experience around that standard. This principle has remained straightforward and unchanged after three decades in the security field.
Platforms that shape how individuals connect carry a unique responsibility. As artificial intelligence expands capability faster than public understanding Halotek believes responsibility must be fundamental to system design. It must be established from the beginning and maintained at every stage.
Halotek watched the threat landscape shift in real time. Early risks were physical and localized. The internet changed the equation. Digital crime scaled rapidly and data became the primary target. Personal information that had once been relatively contained now exists in open connected systems where aggregation and exploitation are easy.
By the mid 2010s Halotek began tracking the rapid development of artificial intelligence. Personal data already widely exposed on social platforms was now positioned where increasingly capable AI could interpret model and act on it. The convergence was unmistakable. The internet redefined access. Artificial intelligence is redefining interpretation and exploitation. Dominant social media platforms built primarily for engagement were not designed for these conditions.
In August 2024 Halotek stepped away from three decades of government scale security work to found Squares 9 Corporation. He identified a structural gap in social media that required building something new from the ground up. Incremental changes to existing platforms could not close it.
Traditional platforms were engineered for maximum connectivity and continuous data flow with protection added later. Halotek chose to engineer protection into the structure from the first line of code.
The result is Squares 9. It is a private closed-loop social platform built around contained member controlled interaction. All access is defined and deliberate. Interaction takes place exclusively within private invitation-only environments known as Squares. Every message image and piece of shared content is protected by end-to-end encryption. The system limits unnecessary data exposure while maintaining performance and reliability.
Squares 9 was founded on the belief that modern platforms should be engineered with responsibility built in from the outset. The platform is designed as a closed-loop system from the beginning. Access is defined participation is intentional and information remains aligned with its original purpose.
Artificial intelligence within the platform is applied solely to system integrity and protection. Strict boundaries keep member data fully outside its scope. The platform also includes a structured advertising model based on clear interest based placement. It keeps personal tracking behavioral profiling and member data entirely outside the model.
"As technology becomes more powerful the systems we rely on must be designed to protect us. Squares 9 was built as a secure system first with social interaction built on top of that foundation."
